FAQs
What i I’m not sure therapy is right for me?
It’s normal to feel unsure. An initial consultation can help you decide whether therapy—and working with me specifically—feels like a good fit. You are never obligated to continue if it doesn’t feel helpful.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, relevant background information, and how therapy might help. You are also encouraged to ask questions to determine whether this feels like a good fit for you.
How long are the sessions, and how often will we meet?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes. Most clients begin with weekly sessions, though frequency may change depending on your needs, goals, progress
What are your rates?
My rates are $150 per 50 minute session. I do offer some limited sliding scale spots, so pease feel free to ask me about availability.
Do you accept insurance?
I am a private pay practice with the exception of United Behavioral Health/Optum. This allows for greater privacy, flexibility in treatment, and freedom from insurance limitations or diagnoses requirements. Please feel free to ask me any further questions.
I accept credit/debit cards, health savings account cards and other secure payment methods.
Can I use out-of-network benefits?
While I only accept United/Optum insurance directly, many of my clients are able to use their out-of-network health benefits for sessions. I’m happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement, depending on your coverage. For many plans I am able to submit those electronically, saving you administrative time.
What questions should I ask my insurance company about out-of network benefits?
If you plan to use out-of-network benefits, it can be helpful to contact your insurance provider before starting therapy. Here are some questions you may want to ask:
Do I have out-of-network behavioral health benefits?
What is my out-of-network deductible, and has it been met?
What percentage of the fee will be reimbursed after the deductible is met?
How do I submit a superbill? Can a therapist submit it directly on my behalf?
What is your cancellation policy?
I require at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be charged the full session fee, as this time is reserved specifically for you.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a foundational part of therapy and is protected by California law and professional ethics. Information shared in therapy is not disclosed without your written consent, except in specific situations required by law. Confidentiality may be broken only when legally required, such as 1) A risk of serious harm to yourself or others, 2) Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder or dependent adults 3) court orders or legal requirements. These limits will be reviewed in detail during your intake process.
